About The Position

The Hardware System Integration Electrical Engineer will own key aspects of electrical system design and integration for MacBook Air. The role involves defining, designing, and validating electrical subsystems, balancing performance, battery life, thermal behavior, reliability, manufacturability, and industrial design in a space-constrained consumer product. The engineer will collaborate with mechanical engineering, Apple Silicon, software, and module technology teams to solve system integration challenges and deliver products used worldwide. As the Design Responsible Individual (DRI) for a subsystem, the engineer will develop and present design proposals and tradeoffs, lead technical discussions, and build alignment through design reviews. They will own their subsystem through mass production, working with manufacturing and operations to support factory builds, resolve line-down issues, investigate manufacturing problems and yield excursions, and implement design improvements that improve product quality, manufacturability, and production efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with industry-level practical experience.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals, including analog and digital circuit theory, signal integrity, and power integrity.
  • Experience designing circuits in one or more areas: power, digital, analog, high-speed interfaces, programmable logic, or wireless systems.
  • Strong PCB layout expertise across constrained multilayer designs, high-speed interfaces, power delivery networks, flex circuits, and cable assemblies.
  • Proficiency with Cadence Allegro or equivalent PCB design tools.
  • Experience with schematic capture and constraint-driven PCB design using Cadence Allegro/OrCAD or equivalent EDA tools.
  • Experience with numerical modeling, simulation, and analysis tools, including SPICE, 2D/3D field solvers, and power and signal integrity analysis.
  • Experience with electrical validation and debug using high-speed oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, BERTs, and protocol analyzers.
  • Solid understanding of design, validation, and debug requirements for common interfaces such as I2C, SPI, JTAG, and I2S, and high-speed interfaces such as USB, PCIe, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, and DDR.
  • Experience with data analysis, visualization, and scripting to automate validation, debug, and engineering workflows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Intellectually curious, creative, collaborative, and passionate about solving challenging engineering problems and continuously learning.

Responsibilities

  • Design robust electrical subsystems and own schematic design, simulation, debugging, and validation.
  • Serve as the Design Responsible Individual (DRI) for a subsystem, presenting design proposals and tradeoffs to cross-functional partners.
  • Drive technical discussions and build alignment through design reviews.
  • Own the subsystem through mass production.
  • Partner with manufacturing and operations to support factory builds.
  • Resolve line-down issues and investigate manufacturing issues and yield excursions.
  • Implement design improvements to enhance product quality, manufacturability, and production efficiency.
  • Design, validate, and debug electrical systems and interfaces.
