About The Position

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is seeking a Hardware Test Engineer to work on its HPE Cray line of supercomputing hardware. The engineer will work independently and with other HPE engineers to develop and execute test plans validating component-, board-, and system-level electrical hardware. Testing focuses on validating new designs, regression-testing design modifications, and helping analyze and resolve complex hardware and software problems. The position is onsite, with the expectation that the employee will primarily work from an HPE office. The role includes supporting new-system bring-up, improving qualification processes, assisting engineering, manufacturing, and field-service teams with root-cause analysis, and maintaining lab equipment and test resources. The engineer will coordinate requirements across multiple engineers and projects, document testing and hardware status, maintain organized records, and track bugs and issues. HPE describes its culture as inclusive and supportive of varied backgrounds, work and personal needs, and career development. The company offers a suite of benefits supporting physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing, as well as programs for professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically 4–6 years of test-engineering experience, including bring-up, debugging, and validation of components, complex circuit boards, networks, servers, and systems.
  • Understanding of functional, integration, and system-level regression testing.
  • Ability to read and understand complex schematics and trace signals on PCBs using PCB design-file and Gerber-file viewers.
  • Ability to perform systematic board- and system-level debugging, design experiments, and conduct root-cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with the Linux shell, scripting languages, and low-level programming.
  • Experience debugging and testing voltage regulator modules and associated hardware.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and power-load tools.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as I²C, JTAG, and SPI.
  • Ability to understand system-level architecture and the detailed functionality of subsystem building blocks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and collaboration tools such as SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of board hardware and software, and design and test methodologies.
  • Familiarity with defect-tracking tools, product lifecycle management tools, and board-design tools.
  • Successful track record working with geographically distributed, cross-functional groups.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and support new-system bring-up, including hardware assembly, visual inspection, power-up, and system validation.
  • Collaborate to evolve and improve qualification processes for more efficient failure detection, prevention, and resolution.
  • Support engineering, manufacturing, and field-service teams with root-cause analysis; evaluate proposed fixes and enhancements; conduct experiments; and communicate recommended changes.
  • Maintain lab equipment and test resources to high standards while improving lab organization and efficiency.
  • Coordinate requirements from multiple engineers and keep multiple projects moving simultaneously.
  • Develop and document test plans, results, test and lab processes and procedures, prototype-hardware and ECO-level tracking, rework history, and current owners and users.
  • Post test plans, results, and prototype-hardware status in an organized, accessible archive or database.
  • Track and update bugs and issues in a timely and diligent manner.
  • Create test-project status reports and metrics, including a test dashboard.
  • Research and document bug reports when quality problems are discovered.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits supporting physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Programs to support career development and professional growth.
