Electrical Hardware Integration / Test Engineer

Hewlett Packard Enterprise•Spring, TX
•Onsite

About The Position

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is seeking a Hardware Test Engineer for its HPE Cray supercomputing hardware. The engineer will work independently and with other HPE engineers to develop and execute test plans validating electrical hardware at the component, board, and system levels. Testing includes validating new designs, regression-testing design modifications, and helping identify and resolve complex hardware and software problems. The role is onsite, primarily at an HPE office. It involves bringing up new systems, improving qualification processes, supporting engineering, manufacturing, and field service teams with root-cause analysis, and maintaining lab equipment and test resources. The engineer will coordinate work across multiple projects and maintain organized documentation and tracking for test plans, results, lab processes, prototype hardware, engineering changes, rework, ownership, bugs, and issues. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and typically 4–6 years of test engineering experience. HPE describes benefits supporting physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing, as well as programs for personal and professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically 4–6 years of test engineering experience, including bring-up, debugging, and validation of components, complex circuit boards, networks, servers, and systems.
  • Understanding of functional, integration, and system-level regression testing.
  • Ability to read complex schematics and trace PCB signals using PCB design-file and Gerber-file viewers.
  • Ability to conduct systematic board- and system-level debugging, design of experiments, and root-cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with the Linux shell, scripting languages, and low-level programming.
  • Experience debugging and testing voltage regulator modules and associated hardware.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and power-load tools.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as I²C, JTAG, and SPI.
  • Ability to understand system-level architecture and the detailed functionality of subsystem building blocks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and collaboration tools such as SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of board hardware and software, and of design and test methodologies.
  • Familiarity with defect-tracking, product lifecycle management, and board-design tools.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating test-project status reports and metrics, including a test dashboard.
  • Experience researching and documenting bug reports when a quality problem is discovered.
  • A successful track record working with geographically distributed, cross-functional groups.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and support new-system bring-up, including hardware assembly, visual inspection, power-up, and system validation.
  • Collaborate to evolve and improve qualification processes for more efficient failure detection, prevention, and resolution.
  • Support engineering, manufacturing, and field service teams through root-cause analysis; evaluate proposed fixes and enhancements; conduct experiments; and communicate recommended changes.
  • Maintain lab equipment and test resources to high standards while improving lab organization and efficiency.
  • Coordinate requirements from multiple engineers while keeping multiple projects moving simultaneously.
  • Develop and document test plans, test results, test and lab processes and procedures, prototype-hardware and ECO-level tracking, rework history, and current owners and users.
  • Organize and post test plans, results, and prototype-hardware status in an accessible archive or database.
  • Track and update bugs and issues in a timely and diligent manner.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits supporting physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing for team members and their loved ones.
  • Programs supporting personal and professional development and career goals.
