About The Position

RTX BBN Technologies is seeking co-op students to join its Physical Systems and Sciences group in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The group applies cross-discipline techniques to develop tangible prototype systems and explore scientific systems operating in challenging environments. The co-op will join a project team designing, analyzing, and prototyping multi-domain system architectures. The student will support program teams with system design, characterization, documentation, and testing, while learning to combine creative problem-solving with disciplined engineering practices. This is a full-time, Monday–Friday co-op from January through August 2027, including the Spring semester. Students are expected to take a semester away from coursework to participate fully. The role is onsite. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance are required; an active and existing DoD Secret clearance is required after day one.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM major and remain actively enrolled through the completion of the co-op session.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, meters, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, and various probes.
  • Exposure to reading and interpreting schematics, circuit diagrams, and system-level block diagrams.
  • Experience in design, simulation, analysis, and/or implementation independently or as part of a project team.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for the required security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance; an active and existing DoD Secret clearance is required after day one.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience bringing up and debugging new hardware designs.
  • Experience testing and characterizing circuit designs.
  • Ability to perform system-level testing, report results, and write basic scripts to automate test processes.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or bash.
  • Prior experience with Product Data Management Systems, bills of materials, product structures, or configuration management.
  • Prior experience using ORCAD or KiCAD schematic and layout tools.
  • Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and prototype innovative multi-domain system architectures as part of a project team.
  • Support program teams with system design, characterization, documentation, and testing.
  • Apply creative problem-solving strategies alongside disciplined engineering practices.
