RTX•Cedar Rapids, IA
•Onsite

About The Position

RTX’s Collins Aerospace is seeking an Electrical Engineering Co-op to join the Avionics Network Hardware team in the Computing Products Department of the Displays, Controls, Computing & Networking Directorate. The co-op is an onsite, full-time Monday–Friday session running from January through July/August 2027, including the Spring semester. Students are expected to take a semester off from coursework to participate fully in the working mentorship opportunity. The co-op will support development of digital hardware circuit boards for new products and support existing products through recertification, cost-savings identification, field or OEM assembly-line troubleshooting, and obsolescence management. The role involves avionics networking technologies that affect aircraft performance, safety, and reliability. Work includes designing, analyzing, simulating, and testing circuit card assemblies for avionics computers, operating lab equipment for hardware integration testing, and schematic capture of mixed-signal digital/analog electrical circuit designs.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and remain actively enrolled through completion of the co-op session.
  • Must have at least 30 credit hours by the start of the co-op session.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future company immigration sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing and designing electronic circuits and/or multi-assembly systems or units.
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams.
  • Experience taking design concepts from block diagrams or requirements through complete hardware designs, including verification through testing and integration.
  • Experience with schematic-capture design tools and the PCB design process to analyze and simulate designs before hardware implementation.
  • Experience using PCB electronic circuit design software for signal-integrity, power-integrity, and analog simulation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, simulate, and test circuit card assemblies for avionics computers, including processors, FPGAs, memory, and high-speed interfaces.
  • Operate laboratory equipment to perform integration testing on hardware designs.
  • Create schematic captures for mixed-signal digital and analog electrical circuit designs.
  • Support development of digital hardware circuit boards for new products.
  • Support existing products, including product recertification driven by minor or major changes.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot equipment returned from the field or encountered on an OEM assembly line.
  • Support obsolescence management.
