Hardware Design Engineer

Apple•Sunnyvale, CA

About The Position

The Hardware Design Engineer will own the design, integration, and verification of digital interfaces and power delivery for wireless subsystems. The role sits at the intersection of wireless silicon and other product SoCs, and covers the wireless subsystem hardware lifecycle from architecture definition and schematic design through bring-up, characterization, and production validation. The engineer will collaborate with internal silicon, software, and platform teams, as well as external chipset vendors, to integrate wireless SoCs into Apple products. The position supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, NFC, and emerging technologies across Apple products. It involves laboratory work, bare-metal firmware development for hardware validation, and approximately 15% international travel to support build and bring-up activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Good understanding of communication-interface protocol specifications, such as PCIe, MIPI, I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Experience with power supplies, power management, and power distribution networks.
  • Hands-on hardware debugging experience using modern laboratory equipment, including DSOs, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Experience writing basic software routines and test scripts.
  • Experience with mobile and/or embedded processors and memory systems.
  • Experience with circuit schematic capture and layout.
  • Strong desire and ability to investigate system-level issues and drive problems to closure in a team-based environment, with a proactive demeanor.
  • Successful track record of delivering highly innovative communication products.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Define system interconnects and power-supply architectures with silicon and platform teams, and implement them in product schematics and layouts.
  • Design and validate power-supply application circuits, including load-step response, ripple, accuracy, and stability analysis.
  • Bring up, characterize performance and power, and validate new digital interfaces and protocols on pre-silicon platforms and first silicon.
  • Develop bare-metal firmware functional test coverage to stress-test wireless chipsets during silicon bring-up and validation.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and debug hardware issues identified through testing, validation, and cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with external chipset vendors on integration and verification plans.
  • Support build and bring-up activities, including international travel of approximately 15%.
