About The Position

Pacific Fusion is developing a pulser-driven inertial fusion system intended to achieve net facility gain, while also developing components for affordable fusion systems. The Hardware Configuration & Change Management Specialist will maintain engineering integrity across the fusion demonstration system by ensuring its many custom mechanical and electrical assemblies remain traceable, releasable, and buildable as designs evolve. The specialist will own configuration processes and tools centered on Windchill, maintaining accurate hardware baselines and coordinating across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in hardware configuration management or engineering change management in a hardware-intensive environment.
  • Hands-on working knowledge of PTC Windchill, including workflows, BOM management, change objects, and lifecycle states.
  • Solid understanding of engineering change processes (ECR/ECO/ECN) and configuration management principles for complex, multi-revision hardware.
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings and BOMs well enough to assess the impact of a proposed change.
  • Proactive, self-starting approach and ability to navigate ambiguity in a first-of-a-kind research project.
  • Positive attitude and ability to influence cross-functional teams of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with configuration management in a highly regulated, first-of-a-kind, or national laboratory environment, such as SNL, LANL, or LLNL.
  • ASQ CQE, CMPIC, or similar configuration/change management certification.

Responsibilities

  • Use Windchill PLM as the source of truth for part numbers, CAD data, bills of materials, and released documentation, keeping records accurate and current.
  • Manage the engineering change lifecycle, including ECRs, ECOs, and deviations, through review, approval, and release.
  • Establish and enforce configuration baselines for hardware assemblies and subsystems, keeping as-designed, as-built, and as-maintained records aligned.
  • Partner with design engineers on BOM structures, part-numbering schemes, and scalable CAD/PLM workflows.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to assess change impacts, manage effectivity dates, and avoid disruption to build schedules.
  • Audit configuration data for accuracy and completeness and resolve discrepancies before they affect procurement or assembly.
  • Develop and deliver training on Windchill workflows and change processes to engineers and technicians.
  • Support internal and customer audits by producing traceable configuration and change-history records.

Benefits

  • Equity plan.
  • 6% employer 401(k) matching.
  • Generous paid time off, including sick leave, vacation, and paid family leave.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
