Hardware Configuration & Change Management Specialist

Pacific Fusion•San Leandro, CA
•$180,000 - $230,000

About The Position

Pacific Fusion is seeking a Hardware Configuration & Change Management Specialist to maintain engineering integrity across its fusion demonstration system. The role owns the processes and tools, centered on PTC Windchill, that keep hardware baselines accurate and ensure custom mechanical and electrical assemblies remain traceable, releasable, and buildable as designs evolve. Working at the interface of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, the specialist helps ensure the correct revision of each part reaches production. The specialist will manage configuration records and engineering changes, establish hardware baselines, support scalable BOM and CAD/PLM practices, coordinate change impacts and effectivity, audit data, train staff, and prepare traceable records for internal and customer audits.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in hardware configuration management or engineering change management in a hardware-intensive environment.
  • Hands-on working knowledge of PTC Windchill, including workflows, BOM management, change objects, and lifecycle states.
  • Solid understanding of engineering change processes (ECR/ECO/ECN) and configuration-management principles for complex, multi-revision hardware.
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings and BOMs sufficiently to assess proposed change impacts.
  • Proactive, self-starting approach and ability to navigate ambiguity in a first-of-a-kind research project.
  • Positive attitude and ability to influence cross-functional teams of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with configuration management in a highly regulated, first-of-a-kind, or national laboratory environment, such as SNL, LANL, or LLNL.
  • ASQ CQE, CMPIC, or similar configuration/change management certification.

Responsibilities

  • Use Windchill as the source of truth for part numbers, CAD data, BOMs, and released documentation, keeping records accurate and current.
  • Manage the engineering change lifecycle, including ECRs, ECOs, and deviations, through review, approval, and release.
  • Establish and enforce configuration baselines for hardware assemblies and subsystems, keeping as-designed, as-built, and as-maintained records aligned.
  • Work with design engineers to structure BOMs, part-numbering schemes, and CAD/PLM workflows that scale with the organization.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to assess change impacts, manage effectivity dates, and avoid disruption to build schedules.
  • Audit configuration data, identify discrepancies, and resolve them before they affect procurement or assembly.
  • Develop and deliver training on Windchill workflows and change processes for engineers and technicians.
  • Support internal and customer audits by producing traceable configuration and change-history records.

Benefits

  • Equity plan.
  • 6% employer 401(k) matching.
  • Generous paid time off, including sick leave, vacation, and paid family leave.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
