Hair Color Bar Assistant, Licensed Cosmetologist
About The Position
The Hair Color Bar Assistant at Madison Reed Hair Color Bar supports Licensed Colorists and the Shift Lead in providing a seamless guest experience from arrival to departure while learning services and working toward promotion to Licensed Colorist. The role focuses on consultations, hair care products, shampooing and conditioning, blowout services, the unlimited roots membership program, and subscriptions, while learning and practicing additional services. The Assistant helps create a focused, friendly, clean, and organized environment and builds relationships with guests and team members. The role reports to the Manager and may be full-time or part-time depending on business needs. Availability during peak times is required. Compensation consists of base hourly pay, commissions, and tips; potential earnings for the location range from $30 to $31 per hour. Actual compensation depends on factors including Hair Color Bar performance, tenure, and time behind the chair.
Requirements
- Active cosmetology license in the state where applying.
- Entry-level experience in a customer service or retail sales environment.
- Effective communication, problem-solving, and people skills in a fast-paced retail or salon environment.
- Comfort operating point-of-sale systems.
- Fluency in English.
- Ability to regularly stand and walk for four or more consecutive hours; bend and twist; manipulate fingers and hands; bend and reach wrists and arms; reach with hands and arms; and move up to ten pounds. Occasional sitting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting, pushing, or pulling up to ten pounds is also required.
- Ability to communicate regularly with guests through ongoing conversations and consultations.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and develop teamwork skills to provide a guest experience aligned with the company values of Love, Joy, Trust, Courage, and Responsibility.
- Perform behind-the-chair services, including assisting with finishing services; shampooing and conditioning; styling and blowouts; hot tool styling; treatment and toner services; and add-on product application requested by guests.
- Contribute to monthly sales goals and key performance indicators, including retail sales, services, and memberships.
- Maintain company standards for cleanliness, merchandising, inventory, and security of company assets.
- Follow protocols for Madison Reed systems, policies, processes, and procedures.
- Drive Hair Color Bar revenue by increasing average service tickets through additional services, unlimited roots memberships, subscriptions, and home hair care sales.
- Proactively complete Assistant Colorist to Colorist training, master color theory, and develop behind-the-chair application skills.
