Hair Color Bar Assistant, Licensed Cosmetologist
About The Position
The Hair Color Bar Assistant at Madison Reed supports Licensed Colorists and the Shift Lead in providing a seamless guest experience from arrival to departure while learning services and preparing for promotion to Licensed Colorist. The role focuses on consultations, hair care products, shampooing and conditioning, blowouts, the unlimited roots membership program, and subscriptions, while the assistant learns and practices other services. Assistants help foster a focused and friendly work environment, respond to busy-day demands, maintain a clean and organized salon, and build supportive relationships with guests and team members. The position reports to the Manager and may be full-time or part-time depending on business needs. Availability during peak times is required. Compensation includes base hourly pay, commissions, and tips. Potential earnings for the location range from $28.50 to $29.50 per hour; actual compensation depends on factors including Hair Color Bar performance, tenure, and time behind the chair.
Requirements
- Hold an active cosmetology license in the state where applying.
- Have entry-level experience in a customer service or retail sales environment.
- Communicate effectively and demonstrate strong problem-solving and people skills in a fast-paced retail or salon environment.
- Be comfortable operating point-of-sale systems.
- Be fluent in English.
- Be available during peak times to serve guest needs.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and develop teamwork skills to provide a guest experience aligned with the company values of Love, Joy, Trust, Courage, and Responsibility.
- Perform behind-the-chair services, including assisting with finishing services; shampooing and conditioning; styling and blowouts; hot-tool styling; treatment and toner services; and add-on product applications requested by guests.
- Contribute to monthly sales goals and key performance indicators, including retail sales, services, and memberships.
- Maintain company standards for cleanliness, merchandising, inventory, and company asset security.
- Follow protocols for Madison Reed systems, policies, processes, and procedures.
- Increase Hair Color Bar revenue by growing average service tickets through additional services, unlimited roots memberships, subscriptions, home hair care, and other offerings.
- Complete Assistant Colorist to Colorist training, learn color theory, and develop behind-the-chair application skills.
- Support guests through consultations and ongoing conversations.
- Maintain a clean, organized environment and build relationships with guests and team members.
