Hair Color Bar Assistant, Licensed Cosmetologist
About The Position
The Hair Color Bar Assistant at Madison Reed supports Licensed Colorists and the Shift Lead in providing a seamless guest experience from arrival to departure. The role focuses on Madison Reed consultations, hair care products, shampooing and conditioning, blowout services, the unlimited roots membership program, and subscriptions while the employee learns and practices additional services. The Assistant helps guests find suitable color, performs services with care, and contributes to a focused, friendly, clean, and organized work environment. The position is intended as training toward promotion to Licensed Colorist. The role reports to the Manager and may be full- or part-time depending on business needs. Availability during peak times is required. Compensation consists of base hourly pay, commissions, and tips; potential earnings at this location range from $20 to $21 per hour, with actual compensation depending on factors including Hair Color Bar performance, tenure, and time behind the chair.
Requirements
- Active cosmetology license in the state where applying.
- Entry-level experience in a customer service or retail sales environment.
- Effective communication, problem-solving, and people skills in a fast-paced retail or salon environment.
- Comfort operating point-of-sale systems.
- Fluency in English.
- Availability at peak times to serve guest needs.

- Salon or beauty industry experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and develop teamwork skills to provide a guest experience aligned with the company values of Love, Joy, Trust, Courage, and Responsibility.
- Assist with behind-the-chair services, including finishing services, shampooing and conditioning, styling, blowouts, hot-tool styling, treatment and toner services, and add-on product applications requested by guests.
- Contribute to monthly sales goals and key performance indicators, including retail sales, services, and memberships.
- Maintain company standards for cleanliness, merchandising, inventory, and security of company assets.
- Follow Madison Reed systems, policies, processes, and procedures.
- Help drive Hair Color Bar revenue by increasing average service tickets through additional services, unlimited roots memberships, subscriptions, home hair care, and other offerings.
- Proactively complete Assistant Colorist to Colorist training, master color theory, and develop behind-the-chair application skills.
- Help guests with consultations and product knowledge, and support a friendly, organized work environment.
