Hair Color Bar Assistant, Licensed Cosmetologist
About The Position
The Assistant Colorist at Madison Reed Hair Color Bar supports Licensed Colorists and the Shift Lead in providing a seamless guest experience from arrival to departure while learning services and working toward the next role. This position focuses on Madison Reed consultations, hair care products, shampooing and conditioning, blowouts, the unlimited roots membership program, and subscriptions, while learning and practicing additional services. The Assistant Colorist helps create a focused, friendly, clean, and organized work environment and builds supportive relationships with guests and team members. The role is intended as training for promotion to Licensed Colorist in 3–9 months. The role reports to the Manager and may be full- or part-time depending on business needs. Availability at peak times is required. Compensation consists of base hourly pay, commissions, and tips; potential earnings for the location range from $24 to $25 per hour. Actual compensation depends on factors including Hair Color Bar performance, tenure, and time behind the chair.
Requirements
- Active cosmetology license in the state where applying.
- Entry-level experience in a customer service or retail sales environment.
- Effective communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced retail or salon environment.
- Comfort operating point-of-sale systems.
- Fluency in English.
- Availability at peak times to serve guests.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and develop teamwork skills to provide a guest experience aligned with the company values of Love, Joy, Trust, Courage, and Responsibility.
- Perform behind-the-chair services, including assisting with finishing services; shampooing and conditioning; styling and blowouts; hot-tool styling; treatment and toner services; and add-on product application at the guest’s request.
- Contribute to monthly sales goals and other key performance indicators, including retail sales, services, and memberships.
- Maintain company standards for cleanliness, merchandising, inventory, and company asset security at the Hair Color Bar.
- Follow protocols for Madison Reed systems, policies, processes, and procedures.
- Drive Hair Color Bar revenue by increasing average service tickets through additional services, unlimited roots memberships, subscriptions, and home hair care products.
- Proactively complete Assistant Colorist to Colorist training, master color theory, and develop behind-the-chair application skills.
