YMCA Sterling Group Leader
About The Position
The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is hiring dedicated and enthusiastic Group Leaders for its School Age Child Care program at the YMCA at Sterling. This part-time, school-year role offers the opportunity to positively impact children’s lives in a supportive and collaborative afterschool environment. Group Leaders supervise and engage school-age children in recreational, academic, and enrichment activities, create a safe and stimulating environment, and support children’s social-emotional and academic growth. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with before-care hours from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and/or after-care hours from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Requirements
- Experience working with elementary- to middle-school-aged children in a school or childcare setting.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong interpersonal and behavior management skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it.
Nice To Haves
- Relevant coursework or a degree is preferred.
- Experience fostering an environment for children of all abilities is valued.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage school-age children in recreational, academic, and enrichment activities.
- Create a safe and stimulating environment for all participants.
- Plan and implement daily lessons and activities that support social-emotional and academic growth.
- Provide guidance and positive behavior support.
- Maintain communication with families and program staff.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times.
