About The Position

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is hiring dedicated and enthusiastic Group Leaders for its School Age Child Care program at the YMCA at Alexandria. This part-time, school-year position offers morning and/or evening hours in a supportive and collaborative afterschool environment. Group Leaders positively impact children’s lives by supervising and engaging school-age participants in recreational, academic, and enrichment activities, and by creating a safe, stimulating environment that supports children’s social-emotional and academic growth.

Requirements

Experience working with elementary- to middle-school-aged children in a school or childcare setting.
High school diploma or GED required.
Strong interpersonal and behavior management skills.
CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it.

Nice To Haves

Relevant coursework or a degree is preferred.
Experience fostering an environment for children of all abilities is valued.

Responsibilities

Supervise and engage school-age children in recreational, academic, and enrichment activities.
Create a safe and stimulating environment for all participants.
Plan and implement daily lessons and activities that support social-emotional and academic growth.
Provide guidance and positive behavior support.
Maintain communication with families and program staff.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times.
