About The Position

The Groundsperson works under the direct supervision of the Grounds Supervisor and performs grounds maintenance and gardening duties to beautify assigned grounds and landscaped areas. The role includes landscape, playground, playing field, parking area, and walkway maintenance and repair, as well as care of related tools and equipment.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• One year of experience in grounds maintenance or gardening work.
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
• Knowledge of hand and power tools and equipment used in gardening and groundskeeping.
• Knowledge of gardening and grounds maintenance procedures, including mowing, edging, raking, and weeding.
• Knowledge of methods, equipment, and materials used in gardening and groundskeeping.
• Knowledge of herbicides, fertilizers, and other grounds maintenance chemicals and their proper application.
• Knowledge of health regulations and safe working methods and procedures.
• Knowledge of proper lifting techniques and District policies, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to perform general grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, edging, and weeding.
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance tools and equipment and perform routine maintenance on that equipment.
• Ability to apply specialized chemicals to control and eradicate weeds.
• Ability to observe health and safety regulations, work cooperatively with others, and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds and walking or standing for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Mow, edge, trim, and water lawns, trees, and shrubs.
• Plant, seed, and fertilize ornamental lawns and playing fields.
• Perform and assist with playground and playing field work, including maintenance of fencing, play equipment, sandboxes, asphalt and concrete play areas, parking areas, paths, and walkways.
• Plant, prune, and remove trees.
• Drive trucks and other vehicles.
• Operate hand and power equipment used for landscape, playground, athletic field, and parking area maintenance and repair.
• Maintain and care for tools and equipment.
• Perform related duties as required.
