About The Position
The Groundskeeper ("Jardinero/a") performs skilled landscaping and manual work to maintain the grounds at The Lodge at Torrey Pines. The role includes maintaining lawns, shrubs, flower beds, landscaping, fields, and a small greenhouse, as well as removing refuse and trash. The Groundskeeper operates landscaping equipment and maintains a safe, clean, and organized work area while interacting professionally and courteously with guests and coworkers. The position is full-time, day shift, and based at The Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California. The listed hourly pay is $23.80. Weekend and holiday availability is required.
Requirements
- At least 3–12 months of relevant experience and/or training.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays.
- Ability to maintain a friendly, professional, team-oriented, positive demeanor and diplomatic attitude, including under stress or challenging circumstances.
- Ability to stand, kneel, and squat for prolonged periods, up to and including the entire shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in a similar position at a hotel or similar business entity.
- Experience dealing with the public, such as in retail cashiering, food service, or guest service.
Responsibilities
- Mow grass, water lawns, feed and trim shrubs, tend flower beds, and inspect assigned work areas to ensure standards are maintained.
- Operate lawn and grounds equipment, including power mowers, leaf blowers, bucket loaders, and other power equipment.
- Plan, plant, and maintain exterior and interior landscaping according to the landscaping plan.
- Maintain a small greenhouse.
- Prepare and maintain fields.
- Remove refuse and trash from the grounds.
- Use good housekeeping practices, maintaining a safe work environment and an organized, clean work area.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the leadership team.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with guests and coworkers.
