About The Position

The Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (BMNTC) is seeking a Grounds Worker I/Greenhouse Operator to maintain its grounds (over 20 acres) and two greenhouses. This role involves the continuous care and upkeep of all plant life on the campus, including planting, cultivating, transplanting, pruning, and grafting. The position also includes flower bed construction and maintenance, ensuring the presence of flowers and plants both indoors and outdoors year-round. Additionally, the Grounds Worker I/Greenhouse Operator will assist staff and residents with horticultural projects, providing training on plant care.

Requirements

  • Education and/or experience in grounds work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade and equivalent to two years of experience in planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants, and grasses; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
  • Flexibility is required for education and training purposes and to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Must be in good standing with the Health Care Personnel Registry and other licensing boards/agencies.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must pass a criminal record background check.
  • Must adhere to the facility's Vaccination Policy.

  • Knowledge and skill in the care and maintenance of all plants, flowers, seeds, trees, and shrubs.

  • Knowledge and skill in the use of mowers and other landscaping equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Continual care and maintenance of all plants, flowers, seeds, trees, shrubs, and other plant life located on the grounds and in selected areas around the campus, in buildings, and in greenhouses.
  • Cultivating and grafting of plants, seeds, bulbs, herbs, etc.
  • Transplanting, pruning, and thinning of plants, shrubs, and flowers ensuring the health of the flora and the beautification of the campus.
  • Flower bed construction and repair, including maintaining greenhouse operations.
  • Ensuring that both the interior and the exterior of the main building contains flowers and plants throughout the year.
  • Assists staff with residents who are engaging in or interested in horticultural projects and provides training in the care of seedlings and other small plants.
