The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a full-time Recreational Therapy Supervisor for the Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (BMNTC). This leadership role is responsible for enhancing residents’ quality of life through comprehensive assessment, individualized planning, and evidence-based recreational therapy services. The Recreational Therapy Supervisor assesses residents’ leisure preferences and quality-of-life needs, develops and evaluates individualized plans of care, and determines appropriate services in accordance with professional recreational therapy standards. This position supervises and manages a multidisciplinary Life Enrichment team, including five Life Enrichment Specialists, two Recreational Therapists, and one Creative Expressive Arts Therapist. The supervisor provides staff with the training, guidance, and resources needed to deliver creative, person-centered programming that supports each resident’s goals, abilities, and interests. Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is one of three state operated facilities serving adults with chronic and complex medical conditions that co-exist with neurodevelopmental or neurocognitive disorders often related to a diagnosis of severe and persistent mental illness or intellectual disability. The health and physical status of these residents require 24-hour supervision, daily nursing care, and assistance with activities of daily living. Our mission statement is to be a specialized long-term care facility focusing on maintaining quality of life and dignity for adults with neurocognitive or neurodevelopmental disorders with coexisting complex medical and behavioral needs whose level of support extends beyond that which can be provided in family or community living settings. We are committed to providing individualized compassionate care delivered by highly skilled staff.
