Grounds Maintenance Laborer
About The Position
The Grounds Maintenance Laborer performs groundskeeping and general labor duties at Midway Atoll NWR. The role maintains outdoor areas, walkways, and work sites, supports habitat restoration and environmental conservation, and assists with basic facility maintenance, minor repairs, and construction-related tasks. The employee operates and maintains groundskeeping tools and equipment safely, moves materials and supplies, removes debris, and works cooperatively with site personnel while following company policies and applicable safety procedures. Work is performed outdoors and indoors as needed, in varying weather conditions. Duties involve physical labor and may include prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying materials. Employees may be exposed to dust, noise, and outdoor environmental conditions and must follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements
- Ability to perform physical labor, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, and moving materials as required.
- Ability to work outdoors and safely use hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Must be able to perform the essential physical duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Follow company policies, site procedures, applicable health and safety requirements, and required PPE practices.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, general labor, or facility maintenance.
- Ability to safely use basic hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Experience working outdoors and performing physical labor.
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and cooperate with team members.
Responsibilities
- Perform grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weed removal, landscaping, and general cleanup.
- Maintain outdoor areas, walkways, and work sites in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- Assist with habitat restoration and environmental conservation activities.
- Move materials, load and unload supplies, and handle tools and equipment.
- Assist with basic facility maintenance, minor repairs, and construction-related tasks.
- Collect and dispose of debris and waste according to site requirements.
- Safely operate and maintain grounds maintenance tools and equipment and follow applicable safety procedures.
- Assist other site personnel with general maintenance and labor duties as needed.
- Work cooperatively with team members and supervisors to complete assigned tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
