Groundman - Overhead
About The Position
The Groundman assists a team in constructing, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems as an entry step in a career supporting the nation’s power grid. The position reports to the Foreman and performs outdoor work in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. It involves rigorous physical labor and may require extended assignments at job locations, including out-of-state locations, and travel on short notice. The Groundman helps install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware; maintains company vehicles, equipment, and tools; and follows safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and insulated protective cover. The role includes inspecting rubber goods and PPE and being available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
- Willing to travel long distances on short notice.
- Able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
- Willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
- Help install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Follow safety protocols, including PPE requirements and the use of insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
- Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Understand when to wear personal protective equipment.
- Perform rigorous physical labor.
- Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
- Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
