About The Position

The Groundman is an entry point to a career in the construction and maintenance of the nation’s power grid. The role assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems, with safety as the first priority. The Groundman reports to the Foreman. The position involves outdoor work at construction sites in a range of conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms. It requires rigorous physical labor, travel to job locations (including out-of-state assignments), and availability for outages, emergencies, and an on-call rotation.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Ability to perform rigorous physical labor.
Ability to talk, listen, and use hand signals to communicate; frequently stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, use PPE appropriately, and understand insulated protective cover for isolating differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment.
Work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
