About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point into a career in the construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The employee assists a team with building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. The work includes outdoor construction and maintenance in varying and sometimes extreme weather, as well as rigorous physical labor. The Groundman must follow safety protocols, use and inspect personal protective equipment, and be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and an on-call rotation. The role may involve long-distance travel, extended assignments at job locations, and out-of-state work.

Requirements

Have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Be able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Help install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, including PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and an on-call rotation.
Perform rigorous physical labor.
