About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the nation’s power grid. The role assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems, with safety as a priority. The Groundman reports to the Foreman and performs physical labor outdoors at job locations, including in varying and extreme weather conditions. The position may require travel, out-of-state assignments, emergency callouts, outage and storm response, and work outside normal business hours.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Ability to perform rigorous physical labor and meet the physical demands of the job.

Responsibilities

Assist with construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical distribution systems.
Help install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and PPE and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement or storm weather.
Respond to outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations.
Communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
