Groundman - Overhead
About The Position
The Groundman assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems as an entry step into work involving construction and maintenance of the power grid. The position reports to the Foreman and performs rigorous physical labor while prioritizing safety. Work includes helping install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware; maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools; following safety protocols and using PPE; and inspecting rubber goods and PPE. The role works outdoors at construction sites in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. It may involve outages, storms, emergencies, on-call rotation, long-distance travel, and extended assignments, including out-of-state work.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
- Help install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Follow safety protocols, including PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
- Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Understand when to wear personal protective equipment.
- Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
- Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
- Perform rigorous physical labor.
