About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point into a career in construction and maintenance of the nation’s power grid. The employee assists a team with building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. Work is performed outdoors at construction job sites in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions, and includes rigorous physical labor. The position may involve travel, extended assignments away from home, emergency response, and work outside normal business hours.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Ability to perform rigorous physical labor.
Ability to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, storm, and other inclement conditions.
Understanding of when to wear personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, including using PPE and insulated protective cover appropriately.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment.
Work outages, storms, and emergencies, including participating in an on-call rotation.
