Groundman - Underground (MPC)

About The Position

The Groundman assists a team in constructing, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems. This role performs new construction and maintenance work while prioritizing safety, and reports to the Foreman. The position involves working outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather, traveling to job locations including out-of-state assignments, and performing rigorous physical labor. Employees may be required to work outages, storms, emergencies, on-call rotations, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Requirements

Have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Be able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Be able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Be able to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
Follow safety protocols, including using PPE and insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment and understand when PPE is required.
Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
Perform rigorous physical labor.
