About The Position

The Groundman assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems. This is described as a first step toward a career in the construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The position reports to the Foreman and includes outdoor work at construction job sites in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.

Requirements

Have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Be able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Be able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Be able to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
Follow safety protocols, including proper PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment.
Work outages, storms, and emergencies, including participation in an on-call rotation.
Perform rigorous physical labor.
