About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point to a career in the construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The role assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman.

The work is performed at construction job sites and outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms. The position involves rigorous physical labor, safety procedures and PPE use, and may require travel, emergency callouts, overtime, and work outside normal business hours.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
• Willing to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
• Able to perform rigorous physical labor and meet the physical demands of the role.
• Able to work outdoors and at construction sites in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical distribution systems, prioritizing safety.
• Help install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
• Follow safety protocols, including PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover for isolating differences of potential.
• Inspect rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and understand when PPE must be worn.
• Work outages, storms, and emergencies, including on-call rotation.
• Communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
