About The Position

The Groundman is an entry point into a career in the construction and maintenance of the nation’s power grid. The role assists a team with building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems, with safety as a priority. The Groundman reports to the Foreman. The position involves outdoor work in a range of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms. It requires rigorous physical labor, travel to job locations (including out-of-state assignments), and availability for outages, emergencies, and on-call rotations. The Groundman follows safety protocols, uses and inspects personal protective equipment, and helps maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.

Requirements

Have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Be able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Be able to perform rigorous physical labor and the physical demands of the role.

Responsibilities

Assist with new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Help install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, including PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment, and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying and extreme weather and construction-site conditions.
Participate in outage, storm, and emergency work, including on-call rotation.
