About The Position

The Groundman assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems. This entry point to a career in power-grid construction and maintenance reports to the Foreman. The work is performed outdoors at construction job sites and may involve varying or extreme weather, loud noise, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The role requires rigorous physical labor and may involve extended assignments, including out-of-state work.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
• Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
• Ability to perform rigorous physical labor and meet the physical demands of the role.

Responsibilities

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
• Help install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
• Follow safety protocols, use required personal protective equipment (PPE), understand insulated protective cover for isolating differences of potential, and inspect rubber goods and PPE.
• Work outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms.
• Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and an on-call rotation.
• Communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
