Groom Student / Groom Tech (Bather)
About The Position
Pet Supplies Plus is seeking a Bather/Student Groomer (Groom Tech) who enjoys working with people and pets and is interested in learning to become a groomer. The role provides grooming services and supports the wellness and safety of pets while delivering friendly service to customers. Candidates interested in becoming groomers can attend free, paid training through the Paragon School of Pet Grooming and learn through an online distance program. Upon hire, candidates who enroll in the Paragon school receive a free grooming tool kit valued at over $600. The position also includes maintaining a clean and inviting grooming environment, building relationships with customers, recommending products and services, and helping store team members when grooming activity is slow. The work may require evening, weekend, and holiday availability, along with the ability to handle pets and equipment and remain on one's feet for extended periods.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to move or lift merchandise, equipment, or pets weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, or stoop for extended periods.
- Ability to review videos and take tests online.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must pass a validated selection test and, where applicable, a drug screening.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in retail or another industry working with pets; experience is not required.
- Interest in becoming a groomer and enrolling in Paragon School of Pet Grooming.
Responsibilities
- Provide grooming services, including brushing, bathing, and nail trimming.
- Attend free, paid Paragon School of Pet Grooming training if pursuing a future groomer role.
- Learn and demonstrate the skills needed to become a groomer through the online distance program.
- Become comfortable using grooming tools and equipment and learn to bathe and style dogs to breed standards.
- Ensure the wellness and safety of pets.
- Build long-term customer relationships by understanding their needs and recommending products and services to support pet health and happiness.
- Perform routine cleaning to maintain a fun and inviting grooming environment.
- Complete Safety Training certification.
- Assist store team members during grooming downtime.
