Groom Student / Groom Tech (Bather)
About The Position
The Bather/Student Groomer (Groom Tech) provides grooming services and neighborly customer service to pets and their owners. The role includes brushing, bathing, and trimming pets’ nails; learning grooming skills through an online distance program; and helping ensure the wellness and safety of pets. Employees interested in becoming groomers can attend free, paid training through the Paragon School of Pet Grooming. Upon hire, they receive a free tool kit valued at over $600 as a bonus of enrolling in the Paragon school. Groom Techs also develop relationships with customers, recommend products and services, maintain a clean and inviting grooming area, complete safety training, and assist store team members during grooming downtime.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to move or lift merchandise, equipment, or pets weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, or stoop for extended periods.
- Ability to review videos and take tests online.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must pass a drug screening in applicable states and a validated selection test.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in retail or another industry working with pets; experience is not required.
Responsibilities
- Provide grooming services, including brushing, bathing, and trimming pets’ nails.
- Learn and demonstrate skills needed to become a groomer through the online distance program.
- Ensure the wellness and safety of pets.
- Develop long-term relationships with customers by understanding their needs and recommending products and services to support pet health and happiness.
- Perform routine cleaning to maintain a fun and inviting grooming environment.
- Successfully complete Safety Training certification.
- Assist store team members during grooming downtime.
- Attend free, paid Paragon School of Pet Grooming training if pursuing a future as a groomer.
- Become comfortable using grooming tools and equipment and learn to bathe and style dogs to breed standards.
