The Grocery/Lead Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in achieving department sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. Requirements

• Must be 18 or older.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Promote trust and respect among associates and maintain a positive attitude.
• Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
• Maintain knowledge of department products and answer questions or make product suggestions.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover items or products they ask about.
• Inform customers about grocery specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products they have ordered.
• Recommend grocery items to help customers find the products they want and need.
• Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
• Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Maintain appropriate temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
• Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
• Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Report safety risks or issues and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
• Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
