About The Position

Provide customer service by processing customer orders efficiently, accurately, safely, and courteously. The role consistently provides friendly service to internal and external customers and performs other related work. Shifts are generally 6–8 hours and may fall between 4:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.

The Grocery Floor Clerk welcomes and assists customers, operates check-stand equipment, processes sales and monetary transactions, maintains product and pricing knowledge, and stocks, prices, and rotates merchandise. The position also involves maintaining a clean, stocked, and safe work area and performing other duties as assigned or needed. The listed pay range is USD $17.50–$22.00 per hour.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Food Handlers Certification, as required by state laws.
• Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to interact with customers and co-workers in a friendly, courteous, and tactful manner while maintaining composure.
• Ability to communicate through hearing and speech to perform customer-relations duties, complete written forms, and visually inspect and read merchandise information.
• Ability to lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 20 pounds frequently, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to perform repetitive work accurately; stand for long periods; walk rapidly; and bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently for long periods.
• Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to operate check-stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales.
• Ability to learn and memorize PLU codes, product locations, check-stand and keyboard procedures, and company policies.
• Mental alertness and basic math skills to accurately record sales and handle monetary transactions.
• Ability to climb and balance on ladders while stocking shelves; use blades for box cutting; work in a cooler and freezer; use household cleaners; and work in varying weather conditions for outdoor duties.
• Ability to perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities

• Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers while maintaining friendly, enthusiastic customer service.
• Operate check-stand equipment, including a cash register, scanner, and scale, to process customer orders using two aisles to check customers.
• Use suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
• Process monetary transactions, including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupons, and refunds.
• Maintain knowledge of product locations, monitor UPC codes, and ensure proper pricing.
• Maintain a clean, neat, properly stocked check stand and a safe, secure work area.
• Stock, price, and rotate merchandise.
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
