About The Position

The Grocery Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and maintains a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The Grocery Clerk helps customers find products, shares information about specials, recommends grocery items, and provides fresh and non-perishable products customers have ordered. The role also labels, stocks, and inventories merchandise; monitors product quality and sell-by dates; follows food safety requirements; and maintains proper case and cooler temperatures and logs. The clerk reports ordering or shipping discrepancies, equipment issues, unsafe conditions, and customer or employee accidents to the appropriate manager. The position requires cooperative work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment and the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Help customers discover products and answer questions about grocery items.
Inform customers of food specials and recommend products to meet their needs.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Provide customers with the fresh and non-perishable grocery products they ordered.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
Maintain knowledge of department products and respond to questions or make suggestions.
Create a welcoming environment by assisting customers with questions about products throughout the department and store.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance needs and notify the appropriate manager about items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict reasonably, cooperatively, and without confrontation.
Handle customer and business information honestly and with integrity.
Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
