About The Position

The Grocery Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in meeting sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The clerk supports the Customer 1st strategy and demonstrates the company’s values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Requirements

• Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.

Responsibilities

• Help customers discover products they ask about and recommend grocery items to meet their needs.
• Inform customers about food specials and current, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
• Provide customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products they have ordered.
• Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Follow food safety regulations and guidelines; maintain proper case and cooler temperatures and temperature logs.
• Maintain knowledge of department products and answer customer questions or make suggestions.
• Help create a welcoming environment by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
• Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
• Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate manager when repairs are needed.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, and manage conflict reasonably and cooperatively.
• Handle customer and business information honestly and with integrity.
• Follow directions and seek assistance when needed to resolve customer and business issues.
• Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
• Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
