About the position
The Grid Engineering Manager in New Zealand will be responsible for overseeing all grid connection aspects of the company's renewable energy projects, from feasibility to operation. This includes analyzing received grid offers, reviewing and commenting on grid connection related documentation, coordinating service providers, and identifying potential points of connection to the regional distribution or transmission system. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electrical or Power Engineering, a minimum of 5 years' experience in this field, and a good understanding of country-specific codes in New Zealand. They should also possess strong analytical and conceptual thinking, commercial awareness of the energy industry, and be able to work collaboratively in a multi-cultural team.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Regional Director Engineering & Projects; part of the team that assumes responsibility for the overall engineering and execution of the company's standalone and co-located renewable energy projects
- Act as lead technical expert with regards to all grid connection aspects from feasibility stage through to operation especially in communications with EDBs, Transpower and the System Operator
- Analysis of received Grid Offers and technical information for specific projects that impact the Grid Connection design of the project
- Review and comment on grid connection related documentation
- Coordinate service providers for any grid connection related works during the development and construction phase
- Evaluate project opportunities and support at the technical due diligence in cooperation with our asset management/ engineering and power market modelling colleagues
- Conduct site visits as well as coordinate site specific surveys through contractors
- Support Construction Management at the coordination of grid connection works with utilities and contractors
- Support Construction Management at the coordination of QA/QC and commissioning activities with authorities and contractors
- Support general project development activities of Aquilas RE projects in New Zealand
- Identification of potential Points of Connection to the regional Distribution or Transmission system where there could be available capacity to connect renewable energy projects
- Support at request for proposals including the qualification of contractors and consultants for all areas of development and construction at renewable energy projects
- Responsible of the implementation of ASNZ and other local and international Standards into the project design and during construction (Quality Guidelines)
- Liaise with our asset management/ engineering colleagues in the various country organizations to continuously maintain and improve existing company standards and processes
- Stay apprised of current and emerging research and trends in the field of renewable energy systems incl. applicable codes, standards, and certifications
- Confidently articulate these evolving trends and developments in the day-to-day interactions within the wider group

- Degree qualified in relevant discipline (e.g., Electrical or Power Engineering) or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in this field or similar field
- Experienced in the New Zealand grid connection process for large power plants with EDBs and Transpower
- Good understanding of country-specific codes in New Zealand
- Ability to work on multiple projects with different stakeholders and requirements
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking
- Commercial awareness of the energy industry
- Hands-on and independent individual who possesses initiative, adaptability and is able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a multi-cultural team
- Advanced knowledge in MS Office, AutoCAD, DigSilent, PSCAD (or similar)
- Fluent in English language
- Able and willing to travel within the country
