About The Position

Responsible for implementing and providing leadership to the grain merchandising program. This role involves developing and executing grain merchandising strategies, including sales and hedging contracts, managing margins, setting bids, and monitoring open grain positions. The position also requires establishing and communicating storage and drying rates, determining daily bids, and coordinating with elevator managers to ensure inventory meets merchandising goals. Additionally, the Grain Merchandiser is responsible for maintaining accurate grain-related records and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• College degree, preferably in Ag Economics, Ag Marketing or Agri-Business or the equivalent thereof
• 3 or more years of experience in agricultural marketing
• Ability to provide grain merchandising leadership, project management, negotiation, problem-solving and planning skills
• Series III National Commodity Futures Certification or qualified for same within 3 months of assuming the position
• Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Must have the ability to travel independently and overnight when necessary
• Must be willing to work extended hours beyond those considered “normal”

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements grain merchandising programs including sales and hedging contracts, margins, bids, and open grain positions
• Establishes and communicates storage and drying rates and basic contracts
• Determines daily bids, selects best bids and monitors competitive bids
• Assists with the development and implementation of grain origination marketing plans
• Communicates and coordinates with elevator managers to ensure adequate quantity and quality of inventories to meet merchandising goals
• Maintains consolidated daily position and other grain related records
• Ensures regulatory compliance
• Follows GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply
• Performs all other duties as assigned
