About The Position

The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at CSU Fullerton is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant for the Central American Research and Curriculum Observatory and Lab (CARACOL). This position is open to current CSUF graduate students in the Chicano/a department. The Graduate Research Assistant will be actively involved in academic research in Central American Studies, contributing to the development of curriculum for Area 6 course proposals. Responsibilities include participating in CARACOL planning, research, and curriculum meetings, as well as attending and facilitating CARACOL events and programming such as curriculum workshops, recorded interviews, speaker lectures, and the annual symposium. The assistant will also present their research at the Lab's annual symposium, provide peer review for colleagues, and complete a written report for publication on the LatinxLab.Studio website. Additional duties may include office clerical tasks, assisting with Lab events, responding to inquiries about CARACOL, and attending Zoom meetings for projects like the Isthmus and Borderlands podcast.

Requirements

• Must be an enrolled graduate student in the Chicana/o department in good academic standing and not on academic probation.
• Strong background in writing and editing skills.
• Experience in researching topics in Latinx Studies and Central American Studies.
• Collaborative team member.
• Timely project management.
• Highly organized with documents and time management.

Responsibilities

• Conduct, present, discuss, and analyze academic research in Central American Studies.
• Develop curriculum for the Department’s Area 6 course proposals focused on Central American Studies.
• Actively collaborate in all CARACOL planning, research, and curriculum meetings.
• Attend, facilitate, and participate in the development of CARACOL events and programming (e.g., curriculum workshops, recorded interviews, speaker lectures, annual symposium).
• Present research at the Lab's annual symposium.

• Perform office clerical tasks such as document organization.

Benefits

• Compensation is made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers.
• Initial appointments are for one semester only.
