About The Position

The Department of Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies seeks graduate students for a 12-month Graduate Assistant position. This role involves providing non-teaching assistance to faculty members, including research support, preparation of course materials, and assisting with student evaluation and tutoring. The position offers practical experience in fields related to the graduate student's advanced study.

Requirements

• Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies.
• Graduate Assistant must be currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program.
• Admissions to the Master Program in the Department of Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies, in good academic standing
• Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree
• Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and have the ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students
• Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• Must be a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional non-teaching assistance to faculty member
• Provide research assistance and practical experience in fields related to their advanced study
• Assisting with handling/or training other students in the use of equipment or other resources
• Assisting faculty with research and preparation of course materials
• Participate in evaluation of student work
• Tutoring students
• Potential to deliver guest lectures or lead classroom activities
• Attend Course lectures
• Read and evaluate student papers
• Proctor examinations
• Performance other tasks as assigned
