About The Position

The Extended Education Department in the College of Professional and Global Education at California State University, Los Angeles, is seeking applicants for a pool of part-time lecturers to teach Paralegal Studies courses as instructional needs arise during the 2026–2027 academic year. Appointments are conditional on enrollment and budget, are commonly for one semester or course, and may occasionally be for an academic year. Appointments may be renewed depending on departmental needs, funding, and performance. Some hires may occur shortly before a semester begins, so instructors may need to be available on short notice. The program prepares students and working professionals for paralegal and law-related careers through practical knowledge of legal systems, procedures, professional practices, ethics, legal research and writing, and skills for supporting legal teams. Subject areas include paralegal studies and legal fundamentals; litigation procedures and case management; legal research, writing, and analysis; ethics and professional responsibility; business, contract, and employment law; criminal or juvenile law; intellectual property; and legal technology and digital evidence. Lecturers teach courses and support student learning through course preparation, assessment, grading, office hours, and other duties assigned according to departmental needs. They design engaging learning activities, periodically update course content, communicate course expectations and grading policies, respond promptly and professionally to students, and use practical legal examples and scenarios. Instructors are expected to use inclusive, culturally responsive teaching practices, support diverse learners and students with documented accommodations, and contribute to a collaborative, respectful, multicultural learning environment committed to student success, engagement, service, and the public good. Course dates, times, and modalities are assigned by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. The initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and is paid per unit according to lecturer rank and student enrollment at census date. Most new lecturers are hired at Lecturer C rank. The listed per-unit salary ranges are $117–$1,792 for Lecturer A, $117–$1,957 for Lecturer B, and $117–$2,477 for Lecturer C or D. Applications are due by November 11, 2026 for full consideration; later applications may be considered. Employment is contingent on eligibility to work in the United States and satisfactory completion of a background check. The role is designated as a mandated reporter under California law.
