2026-27 Lecturer Pool - Paralegal Studies

California State University•Los Angeles, CA

About The Position

Cal State LA’s Department of Extended Education, within the College of Professional and Global Education, is seeking part-time faculty lecturers for its Paralegal Studies program during the 2026–2027 academic year. Positions are filled as instructional needs arise and are conditional on enrollment and budget. Initial appointments are typically for one semester or course, although academic-year appointments may occasionally be made. Appointments may be renewed based on departmental needs, funding, and performance. Some appointments may be made shortly before a semester begins, so instructors may need to be available on short notice. The program prepares students and working professionals for paralegal and law-related careers by developing practical knowledge of legal systems, procedures, professional practices, legal concepts, ethics, research, writing, and skills used to support legal teams. The department seeks instructors with current professional experience and expertise in areas such as paralegal studies, litigation, legal research and writing, professional responsibility, business and employment law, criminal or juvenile law, intellectual property, and legal technology. Duties include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Course assignments, including their dates, times, and modality, are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. The lecturer will design assessments and engaging learning activities, keep course content current, clearly communicate course expectations and grading policies, respond to students in a timely and professional manner, and use practical examples to show how legal concepts are applied. Instructors are expected to employ inclusive, culturally responsive teaching practices and support students with documented accommodations. The successful candidate will support student success and work respectfully and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings, contributing to the University’s commitments to engagement, service, and the public good.
