About The Position

Graduate Choral Ensemble Managers serve as ensemble administrators and rehearsal assistants for one of four core vocal ensembles at the Boston Conservatory. Working under the direction of ensemble faculty, this position supports ensemble operations through rehearsal setup, communication, member support, and logistical coordination. Each student in the graduate choral conducting program will rotate through four ensemble assignments over four semesters as part of a structured co-curricular work-study rotation.

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.
  • Enrollment in the Boston Conservatory’s graduate choral conducting program
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully in writing and in person
  • Knowledge of choral score reading and rehearsal practices
  • Sensitivity to cultural and educational diversity among ensemble members

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience managing or assisting with vocal ensembles
  • Comfort with digital tools such as Google Drive, Excel, and calendar software
  • Familiarity with music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius)
  • Interest in arts leadership, education, or arts administration

Responsibilities

  • Set up and break down rehearsal space (chairs, risers, scores, piano, etc.)
  • Maintain up-to-date rosters, rehearsal schedules, and attendance records
  • Work with supervisor to draft and send regular email communications to ensemble members
  • Coordinate with performance library for music distribution and collection
  • Assist faculty with score preparation, rehearsal planning, and logistics
  • Work with supervisor to provide individualized support and communication to ensemble members
  • Liaise with other departments for collaborative projects (e.g., opera chorus)
  • Support inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive ensemble environments
