About The Position

This position is for a Student Assistant for the COND 311 course, "Advanced Conducting Seminar with Live Chamber Orchestra." The course focuses on rehearsal techniques and interpretation while working with a live chamber ensemble. The ensemble consists of 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 double bass, and 1 woodwind (flute/clarinet - preferably someone who can double). The players must be able to read and play Classical repertoire. The hired student will serve as a performing member of the ensemble and an administrative assistant. Administrative duties include setting up and tearing down chairs, taking attendance, and managing a library of sheet music. Interested students must also apply to and be hired for the "COND 311 Ensemble Performers" role. The ensemble meets on Mondays from 2:00 PM to 3:50 PM and primarily performs classical repertoire in a laboratory setting for student conductors under faculty guidance.

Requirements

Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program (exception: summer employment without enrollment if pre-registered for fall).
Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (first-semester students are exempt until completion of their first semester).
Federal Work Study students may apply.
In good disciplinary standing.
Must be located in the U.S.
Well-versed in Classical repertoire and playing.
Ability to follow the conductor and make adjustments as necessary or suggested by the faculty.
Be on time, warm-up and ready to play, so that the class can start and finish on time.
Must also apply to “COND 311 Ensemble Performers,” and be hired and work in both roles.
