About The Position

This student employment opportunity supports the development of skills aligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies. Through this role, students will strengthen communication, critical thinking, professionalism, and technology skills. The Instrumental Ensembles Assistant will be responsible for setting up and striking rehearsal materials for various university ensembles, assisting with the management of ensemble music, and maintaining the organization of the instrumental music library. The assistant will also collaborate with faculty and other student employees for music department concerts and events.

Requirements

  • MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY
  • Must be Federal Work Study Eligible
  • Must Include a Resume and Cover Letter
  • Familiarity with Google Docs/Sheets.
  • Ability to set and maintain a regular weekly routine of setting up/tearing down rehearsal materials.
  • Physical ability to move chairs/music stands/amplifiers.
  • Ability to organize/file physical sheet music in coordination with entries in the digital instrumental library.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with other student employees and Music Department Supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up/striking rehearsal materials for University Wind Ensemble (Monday evening), University Jazz Ensemble/Combos (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons).
  • Rearranging chairs/music stands, bringing extra music/pencils/binders, arranging air purifiers.
  • Aiding in the passing out of, logging loans of, and collecting of ensemble music.
  • Maintaining the organization of the instrumental music library.
  • Working in tandem with Music Department Faculty, the Vocal Ensembles Assistant, and Music Department Lab Assistants to aid in the setting up and tearing down of materials for Music Department concerts and events.
