About The Position

Apple’s Graphics, Games & Machine Learning team is seeking a self-motivated Test Engineer to help ensure the quality of GPU and graphics experiences across Apple products. The role works with emerging GPU technologies and supports the delivery of new hardware and software features. It combines quality leadership, test strategy, exploratory testing, and development of automation frameworks and tools for GPU Driver and Metal technologies. The engineer will work closely with hardware and software engineering teams in a fast-paced environment, championing quality throughout the development lifecycle. The role includes designing and executing presubmission testing, balancing exploratory testing with automated coverage, developing AI-enabled testing methodologies, and building QA infrastructure with CI/CD integration. The successful candidate can discuss strategy with stakeholders and write code to automate complex test scenarios, communicate results and risks clearly, and contribute to continuous improvement and team mentoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in both manual testing/QA methodology and test automation development.
  • Strong experience developing test plans, test cases, and test strategies for complex software systems.
  • Demonstrated software development ability focused on tools and test automation.
  • Proficiency with Unix-based operating systems such as Linux or macOS and command-line interface tools.
  • Experience in Python.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of fundamental data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML techniques and their application to software testing.
  • Familiarity with the full software development life cycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience developing and maintaining QA infrastructure and automation frameworks.
  • Experience with C/C++ programming.
  • Experience with white-box testing methodologies and code coverage analysis.
  • Experience with system-level debugging and performance analysis tools.
  • Understanding of computer architecture and low-level hardware interaction.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and drive sophisticated, challenging projects.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Swift experience.
  • Experience with GPU technologies, graphics APIs such as Metal, Vulkan, or DirectX, or GPU driver development/testing.
  • Background in developing custom test tools and frameworks from scratch.

Responsibilities

  • Drive QA strategy and develop comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test coverage analysis for GPU Driver and Metal technologies.
  • Perform critical presubmission testing and validation of GPU Drivers.
  • Design and implement test automation frameworks and tools for manual and automated testing workflows.
  • Develop AI-enabled testing methodologies to improve test efficiency and coverage.
  • Build and maintain QA infrastructure, including CI/CD integration for automated test execution.
  • Conduct exploratory testing to identify edge cases and issues that automated tests might miss.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams to understand new features and develop appropriate test strategies.
  • Communicate test results, quality metrics, and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor team members on testing best practices and automation techniques.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes and methodologies.
  • Champion quality throughout the development lifecycle and develop comprehensive test strategies that balance manual exploratory testing with automated coverage.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance automation frameworks and tools that enable scalable, reliable testing.
