About The Position

Our internship program is designed for full-time students currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university and recent graduates in North America. These are temporary full-time paid positions that usually run from May through August. This position is not eligible for Freeport-McMoRan immigration work visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university pursuing a degree, bachelor’s or higher, majoring in Political Science, Criminal Justice, Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration, Psychology, or a closely related field OR Recent graduate (within 12 months prior to internship start date) with a degree, bachelor’s or higher, in Political Science, Criminal Justice, Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Basic understanding of and interest in the workings of federal government and Congress.
  • Ability and willingness to keep department matters strictly confidential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and Zoom.
  • Excellent skills to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office and effectively work with time.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Ability to understand, apply and communicate verbal and written work and safety-related instructions, procedures, job assignments and applicable safety standards in English.
  • Must be able to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Performs research and project work that assists the Government Relations Department.
  • Assists senior corporate Government Relations professionals in day-to-day operations.
  • Summarizes legal and business documents.
  • Conducts research.
  • Attends and observes meetings and conference calls.
  • Manages assigned projects.
  • Interfaces with in-house staff on research and assigned projects.
  • Assists in preparing reports.
  • Prepares summaries of meetings and research.
  • Attends meetings and travels as requested by manager; creates reports on proceedings; and analyzes and organizes business records.
  • Conducts administrative work as needed.
