About The Position

Freeport-McMoRan is offering internship opportunities designed to recognize excellence and encourage safe production within a culture supported by core values. The program aims to provide a collaborative environment where interns gain the skills and experience necessary for a successful future. This internship program is intended for full-time students currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university and recent graduates in North America. These are temporary, full-time, paid positions typically running from May through August. Please note, this position is not eligible for Freeport-McMoRan immigration work visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university pursuing a degree (bachelor's or higher) majoring in Political Science, Criminal Justice, Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • OR Recent graduate (within 12 months prior to internship start date) with a degree (bachelor's or higher) in Political Science, Criminal Justice, Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Basic understanding of and interest in the workings of federal government and Congress.
  • Ability and willingness to keep department matters strictly confidential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom.
  • Excellent skills to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office and effectively manage time.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Ability to understand, apply, and communicate verbal and written work and safety-related instructions, procedures, job assignments, and applicable safety standards in English.
  • Must be able to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, and see.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the workday.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research and project work to assist the Government Relations Department.
  • Assist senior corporate Government Relations professionals in day-to-day operations.
  • Summarize legal and business documents.
  • Conduct research.
  • Attend and observe meetings and conference calls.
  • Manage assigned projects.
  • Interface with in-house staff on research and assigned projects.
  • Assist in preparing reports.
  • Prepare summaries of meetings and research.
  • Attend meetings and travel as requested by manager.
  • Create reports on proceedings.
  • Analyze and organize business records.
  • Conduct administrative work as needed.
