About The Position

Golf Operations Assistant positions answer questions concerning the golf course and procedures, rules and regulations; determine and collect proper green fees from customers and arrange starting order for players; organize golfers into playing groups and make arrangements for timely spacing; patrol the golf course to interpret and enforce course rules; keep records, including those for numbers of players and cash receipts; operate a cash register/computer; close out and balance cash register; determine and issue resident identification cards; and perform other duties as assigned. Employees in job classifications represented by the Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive general wage increases. Eligible benefited employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS). This recruitment will be used to fill both limited, hourly, and permanent, full-time Golf Course Assistant positions. Golf Operations Assistant positions are required to work day and evening hours, weekends, and holidays. In accordance with California Public Resources Code section 5163, all persons holding Golf Operations Assistant positions must get tested for tuberculosis (TB) when hired and every four years thereafter as a condition of continued employment.

Requirements

  • 16 years of age or older
  • 900 hours of experience performing ONE of the following: Customer Service experience as a reservation agent responsible for scheduling attendance and/or determining availability for events.
  • Customer Service experience as a cashier who determines fees, sells tickets, and is responsible for cash and/or credit card payments, and determines qualifications for access.
  • Customer Service experience in a job whose PRIMARY responsibility is providing information, interpreting rules and regulations about services offered.
  • Customer service experience in the golf environment, which includes customer education on the rules and regulations required on the golf course.
  • Experience in a business office, which includes providing customers with information, interpreting rules and regulations about services offered on an individual basis.
  • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours.
