Duke Energy is hiring for two positions at either the Associate GIS Technologist or GIS Technologist level, depending on the successful applicants’ qualifications. The Associate GIS Technologist is the entry level of the classification hierarchy and works with general supervision while developing GIS skills and the ability to work more independently. The GIS Technologist is the intermediate level, handling more complex and varied GIS problems with general supervision and applying fundamental concepts effectively. This level is expected to work independently or as part of a team, develop advanced skills, and gain a stronger understanding of utility networks and the configuration, designs, and functions of equipment and assets. Both levels support the operation and maintenance of the company’s GIS application by maintaining, reporting, and posting work, or by gathering data for entry by others. The role involves working with design drawings, property plats, land-base features, maps, and related information to post data in the company GIS system, as well as generating and maintaining GIS-generated operations maps. The position is hybrid after onboarding, with work performed remotely and onsite; hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute of a Duke Energy facility. Travel is 5–15%.
